If you drove a car for any distance with its wheels out of alignment you would expect some damage to occur eventually. Perhaps the tyres would wear prematurely or the car may feel it’s pulling to the left or right. A similar situation can happen with your feet when they are out of alignment, although it’s not just your feet that can suffer. Your legs, knees, back and hips may also be affected and to quite a significant degree.
A persistent pain in the back of knee may be the result of your feet not doing their job correctly. A difference in leg lengths, fallen arches or heels that are out of true are just some of the problems that can have painful and lasting consequences.
An Orthotic in the context of chiropody is a ‘High-Tec’ insole that has certain additional wedging to the underside called posting. The amount, position and degree of posting will be determined by a detailed bio-mechanical investigation, taking into account the position of the feet and their relationship to the legs pelvis and lower back.
The Orthotic is worn in the shoe and holds the foot in the correct position instead of letting it rest incorrectly when bearing the weight of the body. There is then less pressure on the joints of the feet and the lower limbs, as they no longer have to compensate for the deformity.
A preliminary examination is available to ascertain whether Orthotics are appropriate and if prescribed a fixed price will be given prior to order.
